October 2008 – New Scam attacking consumers!
A new scam, working as in past, is acting to bilk people of their money using false award claims and useless cheques. In this new effort the perpetrators use our company logo and address on their material, however, giving a different phone number and email address for contact (as well as varying contact names and banks for cheque drafts).
If you receive letters from Pacific Lottery Corporation (or similarly named to seem to be us) purporting to be awarding prizes (see attached example), be aware:
- This is false! - Only the government or their representative agencies can operate lotteries and award prizes.
- The scam works like this: They send you a cheque (which will eventually be dishonoured). However, they say you must send them money for fees, taxes, etc. You will never get the money from them; the first cheque they send will bounce and you will be out the money you sent them. Please respond to any such requests with extreme caution and report such contacts to your respective law enforcement agencies.
